When in Italy you quickly become accustomed to what initially appear to be odd fashion choices. The brief shock of seeing a man otherwise perfectly dressed with the exception of bright orange pants and purple shoes fades after repeated exposes to similar fashion choices. It’s as if you somehow manage to see things through a black and white filter. But even a black and white filter is powerless against the visual assault presented by a guy in a car with a zebra striped interior.
We were speeding along the highway at an even 135 km/h when a Renault Clio approached and began to pass. The driver was a well groomed man in his mid-thirties. How was it possible that he was driving a car with a zebra striped interior? Strangely, I was drawn to this curiosity…I began to drift into his lane. Maybe subconsciously I needed to get closer to believe it was real and not a trick of the mind. And just as quickly as he appeared, he was gone. The fastest zebra I had ever seen.
